Self-termination guide

The majority of suppliers accept a letter of authority as proof of Love Energy Savings permission to terminate an energy contract on the customer’s behalf. However, a few suppliers will only accept notice of termination from the account holder, either through written or email correspondence.

In this guide, we will explain who the suppliers are which require self-termination and if this applies to you, how to correctly notify them to ensure a smooth switch.

How to self-terminate through email

  1. Find your supplier from the list below.
  2. Copy the email address connected with that supplier and paste it into your preferred email client.
  3. Copy and paste the email template (at the bottom of this guide) into the email’s body. Don’t forget to include the meter number
  4. CC our pre-live team into the email: [email protected]
  5. Your supplier will reply with confirmation of termination. If this is sent directly to you please forward it to our pre-live team on the email above.

Is termination necessary to complete a switch?

If you are moving suppliers, serving a notice of termination to your outgoing supplier is standard procedure. This ensures that at your contract end date supply can be successfully transferred to your new supplier. If however, you are renewing with your existing supplier and are just changing tariffs, then notice of termination is not necessary.

How do I know if I need to self-terminate?

Your account manager or our order confirmation email will clearly state whether self-termination is necessary. Alternatively, use the list below to find out if your outgoing supplier requires self-termination through written or email correspondence.

When should I serve notice of termination?

Some suppliers require 30 days notice of termination so to give your switch the best chance of success, serve notice as soon as we have advised you to do so. Your existing supplier is still legally required to supply your energy until the contract end date so don’t worry about being cut off.
