| How It Works
The majority of energy suppliers accept a letter of authority as proof that Love Energy Savings has permission to terminate a business energy contract on your behalf.
However, a few suppliers will only accept a notice of termination from the account holder directly, either through written or email correspondence.
In this guide, we will share which energy providers require self-termination and if this applies to you, how to correctly notify them to ensure a smooth business energy switch.
Termination is generally not required for microbusiness contracts, except for Evergreen contracts. We still look to use the letter of authority to contact suppliers and confirm your meter information, to promote a smoother switch. We also still provide termination in case it is required for your current contract.

If you are switching to a new business electricity supplier or business gas supplier, serving a notice of termination to end your current contract is standard procedure.
Ending your contract ensures that at your contract end date, supply can be successfully transferred to your new supplier.
However, if you are renewing a contract with your existing energy supplier or are changing tariffs, then a notice of termination is not necessary.
Your Love Energy Savings account manager or our order confirmation email will clearly state whether self-termination is necessary. Alternatively, use the list above to find out if your outgoing supplier requires you to cancel your business energy through written or email correspondence.
If your contract is coming to an end, this is a great time to look at switching to a new business gas or business electricity supplier. Your energy provider will inform you 30 days before the end to give you the option to cancel your current energy contract prior. This is worth doing, as otherwise you may be automatically rolled over to an expensive business renewal tariff which is often more than 30% more expensive.
If you are not sure how long is left on your contract check your business gas bill or business electricity bill to confirm.
Most suppliers require 30 days notice of termination so to give your business energy switch the best chance of success, serve notice as soon as we have advised you to do so.
If our current contract is coming to an end, note that energy providers require you to inform them that you be moving to a new contract 30 days before the end of your contract. If you do not do so, many suppliers will automatically renew your business energy contract, but it will not be the best value tariff available.
Your existing supplier is still legally required to supply your energy until the contract end date so don’t worry about being cut off.
If it is less than 30 days before the end of your contract, your energy supplier may impose an early exit fee or penalty, check your contract to see if these will be imposed. Penalties are sometimes waived by energy providers if you are moving to a new business premises.
Bear in mind, despite exit fees, it is often worth switching your business energy if you are overpaying for electricity and gas. Compare prices with us today to find out, switching with Love Energy Savings is a free and straightforward service.
