How To Switch Energy Suppliers?
Many businesses allow their business gas and business electricity contracts to roll onto expensive out-of-contract rates. Switching energy suppliers is often seen as time-consuming and sometimes daunting.
We've removed these barriers with our comparison service, allowing you to compare domestic energy and business energy prices in just 60 seconds. Searching our trusted panel of energy suppliers, we'll seek great deals so that you can save money against future price increases.
It has never been easier to switch energy supplier, and with the energy market seeing rising prices - many business owners are getting fixed-rate energy deals to combat any potential increases in the future.

Why Are Energy Suppliers Increasing Prices?
Every energy supplier is increasing their prices because the price they are purchasing gas and electricity for is rising rapidly. This is driven by various world events that have impacted the wholesale costs of energy.
Business owners are now trying to save money against potential future price increases rather than finding cheaper energy deals than what they're paying their current supplier. You can read more about why gas and electricity providers are increasing costs here.
Can I Still Switch To A New Energy Supplier?
The UK energy crisis has been well-documented in the news for many months. The energy market is going through some turbulence and households are unable to switch energy suppliers at the moment. However, it is possible to switch business energy suppliers.
Despite high business energy prices, owners and office managers are seeking peace of mind and security against the potential threat of further energy price increases.
Switching business energy suppliers does not impact your entitlement to the business Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS). We also have great advice on energy savings in our content hub.

Who Are The Biggest Energy Suppliers?
You've likely heard of the term the 'Big Six'. This is the traditional term used to describe the largest six UK energy providers.
The traditional Big Six suppliers are British Gas, EDF, E.ON, nPower, Scottish Power and SSE.
Things have changed in the last few years and the Big Six is now an outdated concept. In November 2019 E.ON acquired nPower and effectively becomes the Big Five.
Further changes to the traditional leaders in the energy market saw Ovo Energy acquire SSE's domestic energy division in 2020.

Who Is The Best-Rated Energy Supplier?
If you are planning to switch energy suppliers, it’s important to be confident that any issues are resolved quickly by your provider. Whilst energy prices have a large influence on your decision, ensuring that any issues are handled is also important.
Although there is no one best energy supplier, surveys are carried out by the likes of Which? on the customer service of a range of energy suppliers. We’ve created an overview of the latest customer satisfaction survey to determine the top-rated energy suppliers.
At Love Energy Savings, we’ve made it even easier for you to find the best energy provider with our supplier ratings. Our supplier ratings are based on aggregated reviews, in the last 12 months, from Google-certified review partners. We have also included a Trustpilot rating on all of our energy supplier pages.

Can I Trust New Suppliers?
With lots of providers to choose from, trust has become an important factor when selecting a provider. The energy crisis has seen suppliers enter administration and has left many wondering 'what happens if my energy supplier goes bust?'.
Ofgem, the energy regulator has many processes in place to protect consumers and business energy customers. This is to ensure competitiveness remains strong in the market and everyone can compare energy deals without worrying they could be left without gas and electricity. Whilst Ofgem offers strong protections and the energy price cap for domestic contracts, business energy is not protected in the same way as domestic.
This means that any credit balances will not be transferred over, and you may not get your money back. In the first instance, Ofgem will try to choose an energy supplier that can refund some or all your credit.
That's why it is important to make sure you're taking regular meter readings and monitoring energy usage as a business to ensure you do not end up in too much credit. If the worse happens, it can become difficult to claim your money back from the gas and electricity supplier.

Who Are The Cheapest Energy Suppliers?
You can compare energy suppliers using our energy to ensure that you're getting great energy prices so that you can switch energy with confidence. We offer live energy rates from a large selection of suppliers in the UK.
It’s worth bearing in mind that there is no one cheapest energy supplier. To ensure you can save money when you switch, you should compare as many providers as possible. The best value tariff will depend on a number of factors including:
- How much gas and electricity do you use
- Your location
- When you use your energy
- Your payment method (prepayment tariffs will often be more expensive)
- With just a few simple details, you can receive an accurate energy comparison from the experts at Love Energy Savings.

Who Are The Green Energy Providers?
Many UK suppliers are offering some great renewable energy tariffs. It is a common misconception that green energy is much more expensive.
Green energy is becoming increasingly popular and there is now more choice than ever when finding affordable green tariffs.
On a renewable electricity tariff, your supplier will match your usage by purchasing renewable energy which is then fed into the national grid. This means that as more people switch to green energy tariffs, the UK will provide more renewable energy.
Renewable gas tariffs often include carbon offsetting to match your usage. Your supplier will promise to invest in green initiatives and the planting of trees as well as purchasing gas from renewable sources.
We'll include green tariffs in our energy comparison so that you have a wide selection of options when you switch energy.
You can also read more about each supplier's green credentials and find out how they are contributing to environmental causes.

Who Are The Independent Energy Suppliers?
Recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of independent gas and electricity suppliers.
Many of these independent suppliers are gaining customers at a rapid rate and often feature as some of the best-rated energy providers available.
Some common names in this category are:
Known for their customer service, seeking energy from renewable sources, helping with reducing energy usage and helping customers to reduce their carbon footprint. These challenger suppliers have disrupted the market over the last few years.

Finding The Best Business Energy Supplier For You
Depending on the sector you operate in, certain gas and electricity suppliers may be more suited than others. Whilst your energy bills are increasing in the current crisis, business energy customers are still able to switch gas and electricity tariffs.
Business owners are switching suppliers to protect themselves against future price increases rather than looking for immediate savings. Choosing the right gas and electricity supplier has also become much more important.
Our experts will advise you on everything from your smart meter, energy use, greener energy, finding the right fixed deal and the business energy price guarantee. Alternatively, if you know what you're looking for, you can simply look to switch and secure your energy bills completely online at a time that suits you.
Who Are The Best Energy Suppliers Going Into 2023?
For business customers, finding cheaper energy deals is likely to be the priority. However, other aspects of service and features can sway a decision when choosing an energy supplier. These may be:
- Online account management
- Great customer service
- 100% renewable energy tariffs
- Competitive business energy prices
Here are some of the best UK energy suppliers you can switch to heading into 2023.
1. Octopus Energy Business
One of the energy market disruptors, Octopus Energy has become one of the UK's largest energy suppliers. With excellent Trustpilot reviews, they are well-recommended. According to recent reviews, here is how they score:
- 53% of customers are satisfied with the value for money
- 86% of customers found their energy bills easy to understand
- 50% of complaints resolved within 1 working day
2. Ovo Energy Business
Ovo Energy has quickly become one of the UK's largest energy providers. Having acquired SSE's home energy division in 2020, they have reset the energy market. This has left SSE to continue to offer business energy solutions for both SMEs and large businesses.
According to recent reviews, here is how they score:
- 42% of customers are satisfied with the customer service
- 38% of customers feel like they're getting value for money
Other string performers include EDF energy and Smartest Energy.
What Happens If My Business Energy Supplier Goes Out Of Business?
Similar to the domestic market, in instances where a business energy supplier goes out of business, Ofgem will step in and appoint a licenced energy supplier.
There are some subtle differences when it comes to business energy as it may be difficult to claim any money back that is sat on your account as credit. This is why it is important to send regular meter readings if you do not have a smart meter.
You should take the following actions if your supplier goes bust:
- Arrange to take regular meter readings
- Do not switch energy suppliers during this period
- Wait for your new energy company to get in touch
What To Do If You Have A Complaint About Your Business Energy Supplier?
Every energy company must provide a process to handle complaints. The first step if you have any issues throughout your contract is to contact your energy supplier. In most cases, you will be able to get your issue resolved.
Energy companies will always try to work with you before it escalates further. However, this isn't always possible. If you do not get your issue resolved, you should formalise your issue in writing. It is a great idea to include any screenshots, photos and evidence at this stage to support your complaint.
For any issues that haven't been resolved in 8 weeks, you should get in touch with the Energy Ombudsman. You can start your complaint here.
When Should You Switch Energy Supplier?
It is a great idea to regularly compare energy prices to understand the current wholesale market. In some cases, you can lock in your new prices up to 12 months before your contract end date.
This is particularly useful if you think energy prices are going to increase further by the end of your current deal.
Can I Switch Energy Supplier Whilst In Contract?
Business energy customers can only switch energy supplier in the middle of their contract if they're moving premises or in a deemed contract.
However, business customers can secure favourable rates up to 12 months before the contract’s end date. Switching does not impact your gas and electricity supply.
